What changes between WebVTT and SubRip
The WEBVTT header is dropped, and so are NOTE, STYLE, and
REGION blocks. Settings after the end time — align, line, position, size — are dropped.
The clock is rewritten with a comma before the milliseconds.
A voice tag <v Alex> becomes Alex: at the start of the cue.
<i>, <b>, and <u> stay, because SubRip players
still read them. For a Word document from the same WebVTT, use
VTT to DOCX.

Which parts of the file survive as SubRip.
What if the file does not start with WEBVTT?
It is rejected, including a SubRip file. This page reads a WebVTT document.
Do VTT cue ids become the SRT numbers?
No. The SRT is numbered from 1 in cue order. A cue id above the time line is not copied.
Can one cue stay on two lines?
Yes. Line breaks inside the cue text are kept in the SRT.
